ATHLETIC SIGNINGS

The Allegheny Valley School District acknowledges the importance of recognizing student achievement in athletics. Students whose accomplishments have led to scholarships at post-secondary institutions deserve to be identified.

The following guidelines will be put in place to commend the Springdale Jr-Sr High School athlete on his/her achievement(s):

If a student has accepted a full scholarship to a Division I school, that individual will be asked to participate in a formal signing at the school.  Coaches, other senior players, family, and district personnel will be invited to attend to honor the student athlete.

The High School Principal and the Athletic Director shall establish and enforce guidelines for this procedure.  In addition, they shall:

1. Invite the participation of students.
2. Assure that all students have equal access to signing ceremonies or the Senior High Awards Ceremony.
3. Appropriate funds to pay for any/all signing ceremonies.
4. Review the procedure annually and make any changes necessary to improve the process.
5. Provide direction and guidance to all coaches to explain this procedure to their respective teams.
6. Obtain accurate and timely information about athletes’ signings and to enable the District to coordinate a consolidated program when possible.
